Truist Championship: Spieth Set For Perfect Major Warm-up – Copybet

Truist Championship golf: Spieth set for perfect Major warm-up – CopyBet

The PGA Tour hosts its latest signature event this week in the unfamiliar surroundings of the Wissahocken Course at Philadelphia Cricket Club.

World number one Scottie Scheffler has given this one a swerve after securing a comfortable victory at last week’s CJ Cup, which completed his preparations for the US PGA Championship, which takes place at Quail Hollow, the course that usually stages this tournament.

Newly crowned Masters champion Rory McIlroy is set to go off favourite after his stellar start to 2025, but the Wissahocken contains just two par fives and may not play to the Northern Irishman’s strengths.

So there could be plenty of value to be had looking a little further down the list in what promises to be another strong battle for a signature-event success.

Jordan Spieth to win the Truist Championship

Tip 1: McIlroy became just the sixth player to win all four Majors when he won his first Green Jacket at Augusta last month, and it has almost been forgotten that Jordan Spieth could join him on that list if he wins at Quail Hollow next week.

It seems a long time since Spieth won the Masters and US Open in 2015, but recent signs have been encouraging that he can end a drought that has not seen him win since the 2022 RBC Heritage.

His close friend Justin Thomas won that tournament a fortnight ago to end a similar barren run which will not have gone unnoticed.

A fiddly par-70 course could see Spieth come to the fore after he rose to 14th at Augusta after making the cut on the bubble and then fired a 62 in the final round to earn fourth spot at the CJ Cup last week.

Shane Lowry to win the Truist Championship

Tip 2: Another player who could be suited by the demands of Wissahocken is wedge wizard Shane Lowry, who should be able to plot his way around with great success.

The former Open champion knows how to go toe-to-toe with the world’s best players and while his Masters challenge faded with a closing 81, he has finished in the top 20 in 15 of his last 18 outings.

Lowry has finished second at Pebble Beach and posted top-10 finishes at the Valspar Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational this year, and another strong challenge is anticipated.

Justin Rose to win the Truist Championship

Tip 3: It could also be worth taking a small interest in Justin Rose this week, less than a month after he came so close to winning the Masters.

The Englishman lost out to McIlroy in a playoff but he played superbly to card a 66 on the Sunday and has shown he can be a factor in signature events this year after finishing third at Pebble Beach and eighth at the Arnold Palmer.
