Scott Thornton's BTTS 14/5 Weekend Acca
The first match of the Premier League weekend looks primed for goals. Newcastle still harbours ambitions of breaking into the European places and need the win here. They are unbeaten in their last five matches at St. James’s Park but three of those matches have ended in a draw.
The Magpies’ matches have seen the most goals in the topflight this season with an average of 3.77 per game. Their six home games in 2024 have seen an average of 4.83 goals per game and both teams have scored in five.
Tottenham are level on points with Aston Villa and currently occupy 4th spot in the table. The Premier League is seemingly likely to be handed an additional qualification spot for the Champions League, but Ange Postecoglou will want his side to put their fate in their own hands by finishing above the Villains.
Ange’s brand of attacking football has made Spurs exciting to watch this season. Their matches in the league have seen an average of 3.55 goals, 2.10 for Tottenham and 1.45 for the opposition. This average climbs to 3.66 in their away matches.
Both teams have scored in the last eight head-to-heads between these sides with those matches averaging 4.5 goals.
Nottingham Forest are outside of the relegation zone on goal difference. They were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham last weekend and have picked up just one win in their last eight matches across all competitions. They should show plenty of attacking impetus as the search for a crucial three points.
Both teams have scored in Forest’s last four matches. Their last 10 Premier League games at the City Ground have seen an average of 2.8 goals per game and we should see a few goals once again. Nuno Espirito Santo has taken charge of eight home league matches as Forest boss and the team have scored in seven of those.
Wolves don’t have any relegation worries. They have already amassed a total of 41 points and will have their sights set on breaking into the top half. Gary O’Neil has done a remarkable job this season and they will undoubtedly pose a threat here.
O’Neil’s side’s matches this season have seen an average of three goals per game with his team contributing with half of those.
The bet won as the teams drew 1-1 earlier in the season. In fact, both teams have scored on the last three occasions that Nottingham Forest have faced Wolves.
Brentford aren’t entirely safe from relegation. They have failed to get into their stride in this campaign have secured a top half finish this time around. Thomas Frank’s side are without a win in their last nine Premier League matches, but this is a golden opportunity to change that. The Bees drew 3-3 with Aston Villa in their last match. Both teams have scored in five of their six games since the start of March. There has been an average of three goals per game over that period. They lost 1-0 to Sheffield United earlier in the season but I don’t envisage them failing to find the net once again. Brentford have scored in 13 of their 16 home matches this season and face the weakest defence in the division on Saturday.
Sheffield United’s hopes of survival are hanging by a thread. They look set to be the first team condemned to relegation, but Chris Wilder will be keen to ensure his side don’t go down without a fight in their final seven matches. They managed a 2-2 draw with Chelsea in their last match. Both teams have scored in the Blades’ last four matches. They managed to find the net at Anfield despite being dominated and can come up with a goal here. Sheffield United are taking on a Brentford side that has conceded an average of 1.81 goals per game, the fourth most in the Premier League this season.
