He’s a standout on the card, and this warm order can hopefully show the rest his engine and win this easily. He has the beating of Jonbon by his seven-length victory in last season's Arkle. He has bolted up two starts back, giving weight to Mares Chase runner-up, Dinoblue. He was eased by eight and a half lengths then, and jumped a lot better than some of his preview runs, but ultimately showing that huge engine he has to put his rivals away.

I think the same will be in this race and will have too many gears for the likes of Jonbon. Happy to scratch the pulled-up effort in the Queen Mother, he chanced at one and Paul Townend looked after the horse.

If he shows his best in the jumping department, he should have the measure of these.

A game winner of the Aintree Hurdle, he beat the re-opposing Langer Dan and kept the verdict in the steward's room. The classy Bob Olinger was sandwiched in between, and I find it hard to see anything as classy in this.

I always thought Langer Dan was a handicapper, but that run showed he maybe more than that. He was second to Galopin Des Champs in a Martin Pipe don’t forget! However, the selection somewhat idled in front, he had been second to Stayers Hurdle winner, Teehupoo, at the start of the season and, also ran second to Champion Hurdle winner, State Man.

I think he will be played late up the Sandown hill and can notch another win on his belt.

Now just three pound higher than when landing the Coral Gold Cup last season at Newbury, he comes here on a winnable mark. He had the Ultima and Grand National winner of last season back in fourth that day. He then was just touched off in a listed chase at Kelso, before running 10th in the Grand National. He’s run in three hurdle races this season, the latest being the fiercely competitive Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival.

We know he stays well; he would have this target in mind after the Pertempts for the fact of the trainers Championship and prize money, and here’s hoping the switch back to chasing perks him up to capitalise on a mark that isn’t over-burdened for one of his talents.
