He has to give weight away, but he’s shown the best form to date, hence why he has top-weight. There are showers about, and he handles most conditions. He was his point-point on good-to-soft. He was second on heavy on sole bumper start, and then won two soft ground maidens, including at Cheltenham.

He ran third in the Grade One at Aintree, before being third in the Grade Two at Kelso, only beaten two lengths. His class edge should see him go close.

Consistent type who goes for an in-form yard. Previously behind Gold Cup fourth L’Homme Presse a few seasons back, he’s maintained his form well. Including last time out when second to Etalon of the Skelton’s. He is off the same mark, and still has juice in that to go in again.

The rest are raised or have career high marks to contend with, so a chance is taken on his yard eking out that extra improvement, to add to their impressive strike rate at present.

Likely to be overlooked because of an underwhelming performance last time out, I’m willing to forgive the selection one bad run. Previously he had three wins from six runs, with a second place, and two third placings. So, he was consistent until his latest run. He was pitched into the Grade Two River Don against some hardy horses, that was on good ground over three miles.

I think the drop back to the middle distance, on slightly slower ground, will see him in a better light. I will take him as the each-way play of the day.
