Premier League. Game Week 6 – Copybet
We’ve reached Game Week 6 in the Premier League and already the defending champions have a strong advantage at the top of the table.
Liverpool have won five out of five and have opened up a five point advantage as they prepare for Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace.
The game of the weekend takes place on Sunday, when Newcastle play host to an Arsenal team that remain in second place following their last equaliser against Manchester City last week.
Manchester City vs Burnley
Much of the talk after City’s draw at Arsenal last week was regarding Pep Guardiola’s tactics, as his side sat back in the second half after taking the lead before the break.
Guardiola would have been praised for his tactics if City had held on for a big three points, but there are still questions being asked of the former Barcelona man.
The 2023-24 champions now find themselves sat ninth and eight points behind the leaders, but a return to the Etihad will be welcome.
City have lost just one of their last eight league games on home soil - a 2-0 reverse to Tottenham this season - and have won their last 13 on the spin against Burnley.
The Clarets have already shown themselves to be much more difficult to break down than in their last stint in the Premier League, with Scott Parker’s men conceding just two goals in their last two league games, against Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.
Chelsea vs Brighton
Another team with questions to answer after last weekend are Chelsea, who slipped to their first league defeat of the season.
Enzo Maresca’s side were reduced to 10-men early at Old Trafford and with some strange substitution selections from their manager, eventually lost 2-1 to Manchester United.
Chelsea have won the last three meetings with Brighton at Stamford Bridge, including a 4-2 success last season when Cole Palmer scored all four goals.
With Palmer’s fitness in question, Joao Pedro looks a better bet to get on the scoresheet as he comes up against his former club for the first time since his summer switch.
Tottenham vs Wolverhampton
Last week’s fightback draw at Brighton once again highlighted the strides Spurs are making under Thomas Frank, with the North Londoners up to third.
Tottenham didn’t deserve to be 2-0 down at the Amex Stadium, but they showed quality and spirit to claim a point and avoid a second defeat of the season.
In stark contrast, Wolves slipped to a damaging home loss to Leeds and remain bottom without a point to their name.
Only West Ham have conceded more goals than Wanderers so far this term, but things are looking better at the other end of the pitch with Jorgen Strand Larson back to full fitness.
It’s worth noting that both teams have scored in the last four meetings between this pair, including a 2-2 draw in this fixture last season.
Newcastle United vs Arsenal
Newcastle might sit down in 13th in the Premier League table, but it has been a tough early run of fixtures for Eddie Howe’s men.
The Magpies have faced leaders Liverpool at home and tricky away tests at Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Leeds.
They picked up draws in all three of those away matches and now return home to Tyneside to try and continue an impressive run against Arsenal.
Newcastle have beaten Mikel Arteta’s men in five of their last nine meetings, with one draw also during that run, while Howe has led his side to victory in the last three matchups at St James’ Park.
Arsenal were dealt another injury blow this week, with the news that summer signing Noni Madueke has been ruled out for several weeks due to a knee problem.
The Gunners have had two tough away league games to date, at Liverpool and Manchester United, and have frustrated in the attacking third with just one goal in those two matches.
