Tip 1: Spain are getting a lot of respect in the markets as they look to add another success on German soil to the European Championship they sealed last summer, but they may not have everything their own way in Sunday’s Nations League final against Portugal in Munich.
While their 5-4 semi-final victory over France on Thursday was memorable, it is possible that it could have taken its toll, but there is more to it than simply that Robert Martinez’s Portuguese side have benefitted from a day of extra rest.
Spain won the last meeting in September 2022, but there were four draws before that and nine of the last 15 showdowns have finished level, which suggests this one could go all the way.
And that could play into Portuguese hands as they showed how strongly they can finish games by scoring two late goals to beat Germany in their last-four clash on Wednesday.
They outshot their opponents 17-9 on that occasion and it is worth chancing that the outsiders can win the trophy, although it seems sensible to take the shorter odds on that option rather than a 90-minute victory, with the draw a big runner in that market.
Tip 2: Cristiano Ronaldo still looks as fit as a fiddle after turning 40 and the Portuguese superstar is showing no signs of slowing down, so he could play a key role in another big game.
His advancing years and spell in the Saudi Professional League has done nothing to dampen his hunger for scoring goals and he has netted seven times in his last eight appearances for his country.
That included the winner in the 2-1 victory over Germany on Wednesday and he looks a decent price to add to his phenomenal tally of international strikes in this Allianz Arena showdown.
Tip 3: Spain have established themselves as the team to beat following their Euro 2024 triumph over England, but it has been noticeable that their defending has hardly been rock solid in their last few outings.
Apart from the fact they allowed France three late goals on Thursday to get within touching distance in the semi-finals, their defence was also breached five times in their two previous games against the Netherlands.
Switzerland were another team who managed to score more than once against the European champions and that looks like something Martinez’s side could emulate when they lock horns with their Iberian neighbours in Munich on Sunday.
