Newmarket Saturday Tips – CopyBet

Newmarket provides the supplementary action to the final day of Glorious Goodwood on Saturday, with two live races featuring on the ITV coverage.

There are six races at Newmarket from 14:10-17:05, with the Listed Chalice Stakes the feature.

Sayidah Hard Spun – Newmarket

Sat 02 Aug, 14:10

Richard Hughes achieved a career highlight when landing the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket last month and the trainer can record another victory over the course and distance with his improving juvenile SAYIDAH HARD SPUN in the opening nursery.

She’s well bred, being by Group 2-winning sprinter Ubettabelieveit out of a half-sister to Australian Group 2 winner Yonkers, and has shown plenty of ability in her four starts.

She ran a race full of promise on her debut in a Class 2 5f maiden at Ascot in May, putting in some good late work to fare best of those who raced off the pace. That race was run in a joint-course-record time for juveniles and a couple who finished behind her have won since to frank the form.

The step up to six furlongs looked sure to suit and she duly got off the mark over that trip at Kempton next time, comfortably seeing off three subsequent winners, before being unsuited by the drop in distance when well beaten in a Listed contest in Sandown in May.

She bounced back from that underwhelming effort when making a winning nursery debut at Ascot last time, travelling nicely and finding plenty for pressure to see off a fellow improver in game fashion. She’s just 3lb higher now and has solid claims of following up.

Sioux Life – Newmarket

Sat 02 Aug, 15:20

The feature contest on the card is the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Chalice Stakes, which has been dominated by three-year-olds in recent years.

The classic generation have been responsible for seven of the last 10 winners, but you have to take each contest on its merits and the three-year-olds in this year’s race will have to find plenty of improvement if they are to trouble the Marco Botti-trained SIOUX LIFE.

The four-year-old daughter of Sioux Nation has to give 10lb in weight-for-age allowance to her year-younger rivals, but she has at least 15lb in hand of each of the three-year-olds and is 11lb clear of her nearest-rated rival from her own age bracket.

The winner of a Group 3 and a Group 2 when trained in Italy, she stepped up considerably on her disappointing British debut when a staying-on fifth behind Estrange in the Group 3 Lester Piggott Fillies’ Stakes at Haydock in May.

She was never dangerous in that contest but was conceding weight all round to some promising types and the form has been franked by the winner, who went on to land a Group 2.

This is a huge drop in class from what she’s used to and she won’t mind the forecast showers, so a big run can be expected.

Ensured – Newmarket

Sat 02 Aug, 16:35

Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole, who have their string in good form, had a moment to savour when Witness Stand won the Group 2 Lennox Stakes on Tuesday and hopefully their good run can continue when ENSURED lines up in the mile-and-a-half handicap.

It takes a leap of faith to support the seven-year-old after he was well beaten in his two Flat starts this year, as well as pulling up over hurdles when last seen, but the return to this track coupled with refitted cheekpieces could reinvigorate him.

He won this race 12 months ago on his stable debut, recording the second-best Racing Post Rating of his career, and he is effectively 4lb lower this time when jockey Elizabeth Gale's valuable 5lb claim is taken into account. He needs to bounce back, but is well handicapped and worth a chance at a big price.
