Newmarket July Meeting – Day Two – CopyBet

The July Meeting is a fantastic three-day meeting at the headquarters of British horse racing as the festival kicks off for day two this Friday.

The second day of the action-packed schedule at Newmarket features seven races from 13:50 to 17:20, including a Group 1, a Group 2 and a host of competitive handicaps to compete with.

The Duchess of Cambridge Stakes on day two of the July Festival is a highly competitive affair featuring the Albany winner Venetian Sun, who still remains fairly unexposed and warrants her place at the top of the market.

However, it is Tim Easterby’s ARGENTINE TANGO who could bring a shock to proceedings.

The aforementioned pair met back in May where the Tony Bloom owned filly claimed victory that day on her debut. However, Argentine Tango ran under a penalty that day and gave her 6lb as a result, which was enough to see her held on that occasion.

Since then she has been unbeaten in her two starts including a listed win over course and distance at the end of June.

Easterby’s juvenile hasn’t failed to finish outside the top two on all of her five runs this year, and, while there is no doubt that Venetian Sun’s victory Albany is the most impressive piece of form out of the two runners, a rematch in which the pair are off the same weight makes this match-up a very enticing affair.

The bet365 Trophy looks like a tough race from a betting perspective and a case can be made for many runners who all have their own individual plaudits.

However, DANCING IN PARIS was an unlucky second in the Northumberland Plate and looks poised to go one better running off an unchanged mark here today.

Despite being without a win in almost a year the Ian Williams trained horse has always shaped like he isn’t far off making a much deserved return to the winners enclosure.

Before his neck second finish in the Northumberland Plate, he was only a half a length back in third to subsequent Copper House stakes winner French Master.

The five-year-old is a strong stayer and arrives here towards the back end of the weights which can give him a great chance of running a big race at the July Festival.

LONG SHOT:

Newmarket –
Dorney Lake

The penultimate race of day two of the July festival is a class three handicap over seven furlongs and it looks to be a great race with the powerhouses of Juddmonte and Godolphin having cards to play in this event.

However this could be a good opportunity for DORNEY LAKE to get back on track following his dip in form.

Michael Bell’s four-year-old got off to the perfect start for his new yard since making the switch from the Gosdens at the start of this season, winning his first two races. He was then far from disgraced when 4th at Ascot to the subsequent Wokingham winner Get It.

Despite a blip in form he looked a bit more like himself at Newbury last time out, when upped to seven furlongs for the first time.

Connections have opted to remain at this distance, as he arrives here just 2lb higher than his previous winning mark. The quick conditions underfoot should play to his strengths too and he has a great opportunity to run a big race here.
