CHARLTON ATHLETIC VS LEYTON ORIENT – SUN 25 May, 13:00
Match Result – Charlton to
(90 Mins)
BET NOWThanks to the excellent management of Richie Wellens, Leyton Orient have punched above their financial weight to secure a Play-Off finish and beat Stockport in the Semi-Finals.
While the East Londoners have a collection of star performers, in Josh Keeley, Ethan Galbraith, Jamie Donley and Charlie Kelman, though, they don’t have an awful lot of strength in depth.
Charlton have perhaps the stronger bench which could allow them to navigate the second half and extra time with fresh legs.
When the Addicks beat Wycombe 1-0 in their Semi-Final at the Valley, they had defender Alex Mitchell, right-back Tennai Watson, midfielder Karoy Anderson, creative forward Chuks Aneke and speedy striker Daniel Kanu all in reserve – each of whom would be starting for around two-thirds of the teams in the division.
Orient have good League Two players on the bench and that could be the only thing that separates them from their fellow Londoners.
Total Goals –
Over 2.5 (90 Mins)
BET NOWThe odds have priced the game up as a low-scoring encounter on the logic that so much being at stake in a Play-Off Final.
15 of the last 26 third-tier Play-Off Finals, however, have seen Over 2.5 goals, and given the quality on display for either side, a repeat seems plausible.
Since Christmas, both have been in the three most prolific sides in League One alongside leaders Birmingham, scoring 53 and 49 goals respectively in 27 games.
The O’s have a delightfully deft, technical number 10 in Donley, and a prolific striker in Kelman who has won the division’s golden boot with 23 goals, including 12 in his last 13, and a midfielder in Ethan Galbraith whom Wellens believes to be one of the best in the league.
The Addicks, on the other hand, have Godden, plus pace and skill out wide in Tyreece Campbell and Thierry Small respectively, and are a very aggressive side that like to play at a high intensity.
Anytime Goalscorer – Matthew Godden
(90 Mins)
BET NOWAlthough Matty Godden found himself third or fourth choice in the striker pecking order in the first half of this season, he finishes it as by some distance Charlton’s top goalscorer, which encapsulates what a fantastic second half of the campaign he’s had.
Having scored just five league goals by the turn of the year, Godden has 14 in his last 24 league appearances, with braces against Wigan and Burton.
A highly industrious centre-forward, who’s demonstrated a real appetite for every level he’s played at since coming up from non-league at the start of his career, Godden gives the Addicks the ruthless streak in front of goal that was found wanting earlier in the season.
