Jake Price's Sunday Racing Tips at Lingfield
Irish trainer Gavin Cromwell has a fantastic strike-rate of 25% (8/32) with his raiders across the Irish sea this National Hunt season, and that record can be extended by the exciting Only By Night.
This Mare cost £110,000 following her point to point win last November and following a stable switch to Gavin Cromwell she has really excelled – winning a Bumper at Limerick by 8.5 lengths before then scoring in a Listed Bumper at Navan in November against some promising types. She’s since gone on to absolutely bolt up on her Hurdles debut, and I think she can continue her progression on Sunday at Lingfield, before potentially lining up in the Mares Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
I’m willing to give one more chance to JPR One here, as I still think he has unfinished business over fences. This 7yo was extremely unlucky at Cheltenham in November when unshipping Brendan Powell at the last when having the Grade 2 Arkle Trial at his mercy, so essentially, he runs in this as a Grade 2 winner without a penalty – meaning he is receiving 5lbs from both Djelo and Master Chewy who picked up their Grade 2s over the Christmas period.
Joe Tizzard’s runner was last seen when finishing 3rd in the Grade 1 Henry VIII when 3rd, but I can forgive him one run on Heavy ground where a mistake at the penultimate flight cost him dearly, and the 2nd has won a Grade 2 since to boost the form.
Considering he had to run 9lbs out of the Handicap in a much stronger race last time out but still ran with respect, Not Sure must have strong claims here now dropping back into Class 3 company.
This Kerry Lee charge has been progressive so far this campaign, firstly by winning on seasonal reappearance at Wetherby in November off a mark of 110. Put up 6lbs for that victory, he then went to Sandown and again ran a race full of promise – this time finishing 3rd behind Animal (5lbs better off here) and My Silver Lining (127), who won the Classic Handicap Chase last weekend. He notably stayed on strongly at the finish that day, so marathon trips look set to suit him, and he proved that in the Welsh National when 4th of 5 finishers despite being drastically out of the weights (raced off 127). Back down to his usual mark of 116 here, he should go very well.
