NAP:

Cheltenham – READIN TOMMY WRONG

Fri 15 Mar, 14:50

view details

My NAP of Gold Cup Day comes in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle, where I fancy Readin tommy wrong to be much the best.

This 6yo was a game winner of his Maiden Hurdle over 2m in November when beating Lisnagar Fortune by a short head in the final strides, and again he was forced to battle in the 2m4f Grade 1 Lawlor’s Of Naas Novice Hurdle when managing to beat Ile Atlantique by a neck. A step up in trip to 3m should be right up his street.

NEXT BEST:

Cheltenham – KARGESE

Fri 15 Mar, 13:30

view details

I have been a fan of Kargese for a very long time now, and I still think she is being completely overlooked.

A Grade 3 winner in France at Auteuil, this Filly was extremely keen on her debut for Willie Mullins in December when finishing 2nd to Kala Conti (ahead of of Nuburgring), but on her next start in the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile she was much more professional and ended up recording a good victory over both Storm Heart and Majborough. As much as those rivals can improve, Kargese surely still has plenty of improvement left herself, and she also receives the 7lbs Mares allowance.

LONG SHOT:

Cheltenham – BETTER DAYS AHEAD

Fri 15 Mar, 17:30

view details

In the final race of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival, I will take a chance on Better days ahead for Gordon Elliott, who has some strong form to his name.

A winner over 2m7½f in a Fairyhouse Maiden Hurdle, he then went to Navan for their 2m4f Grade 2 Novice Hurdle when finishing 4th behind Supreme winner Slade Steel, and Albert Bartlett runners Lecky Watson/Stellar Story. Last time out he stepped all the way back in trip to 2m for a Novice Hurdle where he was 2nd trying to give a stone to Supreme 4th Asian Master, but he’s surely been laid out for a Spring Handicap, and Danny Gilligan is one of the best Conditional Jockeys in the race.
