Bolton slipped up at home to struggling Shrewsbury in midweek having to come from behind twice to ensure they didn’t leave completely empty handed That result means Wanderers HAVE to beat relegation threatened Port Vale on Saturday to keep their slim hopes of automatic promotion alive. With only two games remaining and having inferior goal difference Bolton are three points behind second placed Derby. The Trotters had 70% of the ball against the Shrews taking 25 shots with 13 of those on target. A similar performance against the Valiants should be enough to at least take the fight to automatically join Portsmouth in the Championship next season to the final weekend of the campaign.

Darren Moore’s side currently sit in the relegation zone three points from safety and with inferior goal difference. A 2-1 home defeat to Wycombe on Tuesday pushed them closer to the drop and was a fourth loss in five. They have lost seven of their last 10 league road trips including 3-0 defeats to promotion chasing Derby and Peterborough. Expect Bolton, whose home record is only bettered by already promoted Portsmouth, to have too much for the strugglers.

Doncaster Rovers vs Barrow AFC

Doncaster had the perfect Tuesday night without so much as kicking a ball. Instead, they sat back and watched seventh placed Crawley draw with sixth placed Barrow. That keeps Rovers just two points outside the playoffs with a game in hand and only four points adrift of their opponents here. The fact Grant McCann’s side had an interest in that match is down to their phenomenal end to the season. The comprehensive 4-0 dismissal of Accrington last weekend was an eighth successive win. A run which has seen them score 18 goals in the process and concede just two.

Barrow will not only be facing a second tough road trip in the space of a few days but also visit amidst a poor run of form. The point at Crawley at least ended a run of three consecutive defeats but did extend their winless sequence away from home to nine games. Donny will see this as a fantastic opportunity to put one foot in the play offs and at the same time psychologically damage a rival with their manager promising they must not take their foot off the gas ahead of this pivotal clash.

Girona vs Cadiz

Admittedly in recent weeks Girona has slipped away from the title race they had unexpectedly found themselves a part of. But with seven games remaining in La Liga, Míchel’s side still very much have European qualification firmly within their own hands. They enjoy an eight-point buffer to fifth placed Athletic Club and know winning their remaining four home games will all but guarantee a place in the top four. Last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Atlético Madrid was a fifth in succession on the road but the Blanquivermells remain a fearsome prospect on home soil. Only Real and Atlético Madrid have taken more points at home in La Liga this term and the Catalans have won seven of their last eight fixtures at Estadio Municipal de Montilivi.

They face a Cadiz side that remain in the relegation zone following a 1-0 defeat at home to Barcelona last weekend. What’s more the Yellow Submarine are still searching for their first away win of the season. Hardly a surprise for a side that have scored just seven goals across their 15 road trips so far, failing to hit the back of the net in nine of those. Mauricio Pellegrino’s men are yet to pick up a single point at any side currently in the top seven and we should expect a similar outcome against a Girona outfit that won the reverse fixture 1-0 in October.
