Ranked 45th in the FIFA World Rankings it was something of a surprise to see Romania top their qualifying group at the expense of Switzerland. Putting together an unbeaten 10 game campaign and winning four of their five games on home soil. This was built around a sturdy defence which conceded just five times.

Northern Ireland have long since had issues in scoring goals and as a result only finished ahead of minnows San Marino in their group of six. Having particular trouble on foreign soil where they lost their last four internationals, three of which without getting on the scoresheet.

Spain vs Colombia

Although this fixture is being played in the neutral location of London, Spain are overwhelming favourites. La Roja looked the force of old as they reeled off six successive wins to end their qualification campaign and top Group A. They plundered 22 goals over those games a run which followed ending an 11-year wait for a trophy as they defeated Croatia to lift the Nations League.

The Colombians could put up some resistance here but with the game taking place in Europe this can only be a victory for Luis de la Fuente’s in form side.

Republic of Ireland vs Belgium

Ireland posted another disappointing qualification campaign which saw them finish 5th of six in Group B. They only recorded two wins, both of which against a Gibraltar side that shipped 41 goals without reply across their eight-game campaign. November’s 1-1 friendly draw here in Dublin against New Zealand would have done little to lift expectations.

World ranked number four nation Belgium are undefeated in 10 games under Domenico Tedesco, winning eight. Menacingly the Red Devils have Romelu Lukaku firing again with him scoring four first half goals in their 5-0 rout of Azerbaijan last time out.

England vs Brazil

As England tend to do, they comfortably qualified for this summer’s big tournament. Undefeated across their eight games including two victories over Italy. This is an interesting test ahead of Euro 2024 with Brazil gearing up for Copa America. The Three Lions are unbeaten across 10 fixtures since losing to France at the quarter final stage of the World Cup. While the Selecao visit having lost their last three internationals and suffered their first-ever defeat at home in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match at the hands of bitter rivals Argentina.

With Brazil missing their first and second choice goalkeepers Alisson Becker and Ederson through injury it must be advantage England on home soil against a makeshift visiting side in their first game under Dorival Junior.

France vs Germany

As hosts of Euro 2024 Germany automatically qualified meaning they have not played a competitive match since elimination from the World Cup at the group stages. They have lost five of their 11 internationals since including the last two in the four-game reign of new head coach Julian Nagelsmann. Also failing to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 games.

France cruised through qualifying winning seven of their eight fixtures – drawing the last, only conceding three goals and showed no mercy in thrashing Gibraltar 14-0 along the way. Home advantage and the whole host of talent the World ranked number two side have at their disposal will be enough to win what should be an entertaining game.
