Lincoln City vs Wigan Athletic

Lincoln’s five game winning sequence came to an end last weekend after being pegged back by Reading and having to settle for a draw. However, that result did stretch their unbeaten run to an impressive 16 games. Head coach Michael Skubala reflected on a fair point gained away at an improving Royals side but will look for his men to continue their red-hot form on home soil here. The Imps have won six of their last seven games at the LNER stadium scoring 18 goals and conceding just once. They haven’t let in a goal at home in just shy of 600 minutes and have the added luxury of a free week to prepare for the visit of Wigan.

That is a luxury the Latics do not have after a battling 2-2 draw at Charlton on Tuesday evening. A result that at least showed small improvement after manager Shaun Maloney had to address claims his mid-table side had suffered a dip in results as they were already “on the beach”. He had seen them lose three successive road trips before the point at The Valley and I expect normal service to be restored here against the rampant, play off chasing Imps.

Doncaster Rovers vs Accrington Stanley

Doncaster’s midweek engagement with Walsall was a successful one, ending in a 2-1 victory. That was a seventh successive win, a run of form which has seen Rovers climb to 10th in the table just four points off the play off places. The only slight disappointment being the concession of an added-on time goal ending close to eight hours without the opposition scoring. Grant McCann declared it the most satisfying win of their sequence of victories but will be looking to top that back on home soil for the visit of Accrington.

Stanley have slipped away from the promotion race following just one win in their last 10 games – losing six of those. I am not reading too much into the form of a win at Newport on Tuesday evening with the Welsh side now having lost five games on the spin. Graham Coughlan using phrases in his post-match interviews such as “taking a group of boys as far as you can” “the things we are doing are car-crash material” and “we have just fallen off a cliff” says it all. This will be a much sterner test against the inform team of the EFL and at even money Donny are a cracking price.

Wrexham vs Forest Green Rovers

Wrexham took another step nearer automatic promotion on Tuesday with a 4-1 demolition of playoff hopefuls Crawley Town. The Red Dragons remain second in the table, four points adrift of Stockport County at the summit but crucially five clear of fourth placed MK Dons. Phil Parkinson’s men have the best home record in League Two having won 15 of their 21 games at the Racecourse Ground. Crucially they have top scorer and talisman Paul Mullin who punctured a lung on the eve of the season, back at the peak of his powers. After an understandably slow start the 29-year-old has now plundered 21 league goals including 11 in his last 10 appearances. Next up are rock bottom Forest Green who are perilously close to surrendering their hard-fought league status and suffering successive relegations.

Rovers only lost 1-0 to third placed Mansfield in midweek but the scoreline flattered the visitors who had their backs to the wall throughout. That is now five defeats in the last six games with promotion chasers Doncaster, MK Dons and Stockport all proving far too strong in that run. We will be able to add Wrexham to that list come Saturday evening.
