A lightly raced son of Galileo he got off the mark at the second time of asking at Leopardstown on heavy ground over 10 furlongs running respectably in a 10-furlong Group Three at the Curragh before stepping up to this trip at Ascot where he was beaten just over six lengths by Illinois who ran so well behind Los Angeles here the other day.
This trip suits him down to the ground and a mark of 101 is more than fair. He's taking a big class drop here the only negative being the draw, but I suspect he's far enough ahead of the handicapper that won't make any difference here. I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't go close.
This horse has been knocking on the door in big handicaps all over the UK all season without winning One over a variety of trips, but I think a stiff six furlongs here should see him to very good effect. He finished a close-up third in the Stewards Cup at Goodwood having been runner up just a couple of days earlier over seven furlongs.
The mix of speed and stamina he possesses should make this a real good opportunity for him to get a well-deserved win on the board and hopefully this is his day. I can't knock him out of the frame.
This horse is a very consistent operator and having won his maiden at the third attempt he went to Royal Ascot where he finished seventh out of 27 in the Windsor Castle beaten just over five lengths that day. He ran in a Group Three at the Curragh last time where he finished sixth behind Babouche over six furlongs who subsequently beat Whistlejacket to win a Group One at the Curragh who himself was a Group One winner in France since then.
The form looks even stronger when you consider there was a Listed winner in the shape of Treasure Isle in fourth that day and Cowardofthecounty who finished seventh won a Group Three last weekend. With plenty double figures around for this lad I'll be having a good bet on this strong travelling son of Mehmas who will be well suited by returning to five furlongs here. I'm hopeful he can go very close.
