Goodwood Festival Thursday Tips – Irish NH Tips

MERCHANT – GOODWOOD

Thu 31 July, 14:30

A three-time winner from six starts, this horse was an impressive winner of a Royal Ascot handicap with the second coming out and being a close second in the Irish Derby on his next start. This horse has always oozed class and has been progressing run to run this season. He’s taking his first step out of handicap company into a Group 3 here, and I believe it's a step he will take in his stride.

I will be shocked if he’s beat. He’s odds against at the moment and I can't foresee a situation where he doesn't go off odds on.

WHIRL – GOODWOOD

This filly has had a really good season to date, from winning the Musidora at York, to a fine second in the Oaks at Epsom, before dropping back to ten furlongs for the Pretty Polly at the Curragh. There, she got the better of Kalpana who franked that form in the King George at Ascot over the weekend.

She's a tough hardy filly who will no doubt try to draw the sting out of her opposition at a track that suits front runners. She will be tough to pass getting the weight for age allowance off her nearest market rival and I would be disappointed if she didn't prove herself good enough to get the better of this opposition.

PAROLE D’ORO – GOODWOOD

Thu 31 July, 13:20

This horse was really unlucky in his run at Royal Ascot, getting stopped at a vital time when making up ground late and just failed to get up on the line in Newmarket since. Those two efforts came over a mile and it looks like a step up in trip shouldn't be any problem to him, especially over a fast track like Goodwood.

He has been held up over a mile, but I wonder if they may ride him a bit closer to the pace over this sort of trip. He’s clearly a well handicapped horse and with a bit of well-deserved luck in running, hopefully he can get his head in front. He should run a big race.
