Glorious Goodwood. Day Two – CopyBet

Goodwood’s five-day extravaganza continues on Wednesday and there’s plenty to look forward to across the seven-race card.

The main event on Day 2 is the £1,000,000 Sussex Stakes, where Field Of Gold will be aiming to confirm the St. James’s Palace Stakes form and beat the older generation.

Group 3 action provides excellent support to the big race and we also have a feast of thoroughly competitive handicap action too. Here are three of our strongest fancies on the card.

Goodwood –
Lady Iman

Wed 30 July, 14:30

Ger Lyons doesn’t send runners over to Britain unless he’s confident of a big run and the very talented LADY IMAN looks like the one to beat. The daughter of Starman has produced a high level of form so far this season and coming back to 5f is very likely to suit.

She beat several subsequent winners in a Dundalk maiden on her debut and went on to score in Listed and Group 3 company. Queen Mary and Railway Stakes winner True Love finished behind her at the Curragh in May and it’s impossible to knock that form.

Second to Beautify in the Airlie Stud Stakes when last seen, she was too keen that day and the winner saw the trip out better. It’ll take a good one to beat her and a huge run is anticipated.

Goodwood –
Tabiti

Wed 30 July, 13:55

This is a fairly open Group 3 and it looks like a good opportunity for TABITI, who could be another winner for Ralph Beckett. Ryan Moore is certainly an eye-catching jockey booking, with retained rider Colin Keane sidelined through suspension.

She showed a significant amount of potential at two, winning a Newmarket maiden over this trip in very good style on her debut. Group 3 success then followed at Salisbury, before she failed to get home in the Fillies’ Mile. Beckett’s filly ran a cracker to finish third in the Sandringham last time and is entitled to step forward.

Returning to Group company here, her best form suggests a big run could be on the cards and three-year-olds have won the last three runnings of this race.

Goodwood –
Cape Breton

Wed 30 July, 13:20

Fiercely competitive handicaps such as this are hard to win and every pound can make a difference. The lightly raced CAPE BRETON could be the one to side with here, as it’s likely that he remains ahead of the handicapper. He has won two of his six starts and was very impressive last time out.

This son of Frankel managed to get off the mark in a Lingfield novice over a mile on his final start at two, holding off the fast-finishing Padua to score by a head. That form has worked out really well with plenty of subsequent winners coming out of it and he was always going to be a middle-distance type.

Ralph Beckett’s gelding ran a nice race to finish second on his handicap bow first time out, despite showing signs of inexperience. His below-par run at York after that is hard to explain but the step up to 1m4f made a big difference last time out and he bolted up.

It’s hard to argue with a 7lb rise following that performance and while more will be needed, he’s unexposed and progressive over this trip. A follow up victory can’t be ruled out here.
