Glorious Goodwood. Day Four – CopyBet
It’s the fourth day of the Glorious Goodwood Festival on Friday and there are seven races to take in from 13:20-16:55.
The highlights of the day are the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes and the Group 3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes.
Munsif – Goodwood
Comfortable winner on his first two starts at Nottingham and Pontefract, Munsif disappointed slightly when last seen finishing third at York in May.
Full of confidence after those victories and aiming for a hat-trick, the three-year-old looked keen early on in his first handicap start and was eventually caught in the closing stages.
Roger Varian’s charge has been gelded since that effort and, if that has the desired effect, he could be seen to better effect at Goodwood and a return to winning ways is possible.
Cosmic Year – Goodwood
Cosmic Year has been running at a top level in 2025, recording back-to-back victories at Kempton Park and Newmarket before finishing a credible second in the Irish 2000 Guineas behind Field Of Gold.
He was no match for the winner on that occasion at the Curragh, but he ran very well on his first attempt at a mile and he was subsequently sent to France in order to avoid another clash with his stablemate.
However, Cosmic Year disappointed in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Deauville back down in trip, ending up seventh in the nine-runner field and seemingly unable to handle the soft ground.
The ground at Goodwood on Friday may just stay in his favour and there were enough positives from his showing at the Curragh in May to suggest he can strike now dropping into Group 3 company.
Ebt’s Guard – Goodwood
It can be argued that Ebt’s Guard has performed above expectations this season, with the four-year-old winning on his reappearance at big odds at Newbury in April.
He has put in some credible performances since at Epsom and in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot last month, finishing fourth and seventh respectively.
Ebt’s Guard was slightly disappointing last time out when tried over seven furlongs at Newmarket, finishing fifth having never really got into the thick of things during the race,
But the four-year-old did stay on well at racing HQ and given he has performed well over a mile this season, this trip should suit.
