10 points from the last seven games might have been more than Oxford expected to need to keep the relegation zone at arm’s length going into the last two games, but it’s exactly what they have needed.

With Derby and Luton in excellent form, the U’s are one point closer to the bottom three than they were before they started this run – now just three points above – so it shows that had they only averaged one point per game in that time, they’d have got sucked in.

1-0 victories over both Steel City clubs were a huge help, as was Cameron Brannagan’s freekick on Easter Monday, which gave them a fortuitous point at Cardiff.

It’s all about permutations at this stage, and while the hosts desperately need the points, Sunderland are in rotation mode ahead of the Play-Offs – they’ve lost their last three.

Crawley vs Northampton

Crawley’s positive Easter Weekend has given Scott Lindsey’s Sussex side the slightest sniff of survival, with an unlikely point and clean sheet at Birmingham on Good Friday followed up by a 3-1 victory over Exeter on Monday.

Now, the Red Devils have a chance of staying up if they can beat already safe Northampton, and already relegated Shrewsbury – two favourable fixtures – and other results go their way.

Lindsey’s men can get to a maximum of 46 points, so they’d need Burton and Bristol Rovers to fail to win each of their remaining games.

The Cobblers, meanwhile, can celebrate a productive season, despite Jon Brady’s November exit, with Kevin Nolan overseeing excellent organisation since replacing the Aussie, steering them to comfortable survival with midtable form.

Chesterfield vs Morecambe

Morecambe’s 3-1 home defeat to Salford on Easter Monday consigned the Lancashire club to relegation, bringing an end to 18 years of Football League history.

Now, focus turns to off-field matters, as the Board of Directors hope to find answers from an absent owner to the big questions: namely, will they have an operational budget for next season?

Chesterfield, meanwhile, can look to futures both immediate and long-term with greater optimism, as they go into the last two games three points and places off the top seven – if they win, Grimsby lose at MK Dons, and Colchester against Salford ends in a draw, they’ll go into the final day occupying the final play-off spot.

Paul Cook’s side have been rather streaky this season, but they’re finishing it in good form with just one defeat in 11, despite a campaign that’s been affected badly by injuries.
