The race for the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship in 2025 took a massive swing in favour of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri last weekend, as he took the chequered flag at the Dutch Grand Prix, while his team-mate Lando Norris was forced to retire.

An unfortunate oil leak with just seven laps to go brought Norris’ race at Zandvoort to an end, but the Briton does not have to wait long for an opportunity to respond and try to secure a maiden win at the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Following the disappointment of his retirement in North Holland, Norris has admitted all he can do is “go for it” as he looks to narrow the now 34 points gap between himself and frontrunner Piastri in the Drivers’ Championship.

Norris can look back on how strong he was in practice ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, finishing the quickest in all three practice sessions.

He already has two podiums to his name at the Italian Grand Prix, having secured second place in 2021 before following it up with third last year.

Provided reliability holds out for Norris, the Bristol-born driver looks well placed to bounce back from the frustration of Zandvoort and could offer strong value to finally break through with a maiden race victory at Monza on Sunday.

While unable to trouble the podium places, the Dutch Grand Prix week was a positive one for the two Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.

Alonso looked sharp in practice and in the second session, the Spaniard actually split the two McLarens at the top of the lap time charts.

A two-time winner previously at the Italian Grand Prix, Alonso finished in eighth place at Zandvoort, while his teammate Stroll finished just ahead of him in seventh.

Considering how well Alonso and Stroll drove in North Holland, there is plenty of appeal with the price of 7/1 for both Aston Martin drivers to finish in the points ahead this weekend at Monza.
