England vs India third Test Preview – CopyBet
Pace aces Jofra Archer and Jasprit Bumrah are set to return to bring rapid star quality to Lord's as England and India prepare to meet again in the Third Test with the series on a knife-edge.
England had gone 1-0 ahead at Headingley before India levelled up at Edgbaston, and now it's all eyes on Lord's for the latest instalment of what is turning into a thrilling summer.
Tip 1: India have won on two of their last three visits to Lord's to play England in Tests, and can make it three in four over the next week.
Shubman Gill's team bossed the first Test against England in Leeds but lost. However, they repeated the feat in Birmingham, this time securing the win.
It's a level of dominance that isn't reflected in the 1-1 scoreline and nor is it mirrored in the match result odds with the tourists available at 69/50.
India should be even better at Lord's where Jasprit Bumrah returns, rested, to spearhead an attack featuring Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, who between them took 17 wickets at Edgbaston in a comprehensive away win.
Lord's will have pace in it - or at least Brendon McCullum has asked for that to help the England pace attack, which could also feature Jofra Archer for the first time in a Test match in four years.
But that will also suit India's seam attack while their batters are playing beautifully with seven centuries made in the opening two matches.
Tip 2: Shubman Gill won all the plaudits for his two outstanding knocks at Edgbaston where he became just the ninth player to score a double hundred and century in the same Test.
But the support cast didn't let him down with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal flourishing once again against a lacklustre new-ball attack.
England will likely go for a different opening salvo at Lord's - Gus Atkinson and Jofra Archer could both get drafted in - but that won't bother Jaiswal.
The classy left-hander scored 101 in the first innings in Leeds and 87 in the first innings in Birmingham.
The 23-year-old is a big price to eclipse Gill and be his side's top scorer in the first innings at the MCC.
Tip 3: Okay, it's hardly an original pick, but with scores of 44, 40, 184 and 88, you have to think Jamie Smith is a bit of value at 15/2 to be top England 1st innings runscorer.
England's top order has turned into a chaotic ensemble with players stuck between the flog-it-to-all-areas mantra from management and showing decent technique, and one or two are really floundering.
Smith, in at No.7 though conceivably could go above the out-of-form Ben Stokes at Lord's, looks in sensational touch and can trump any of his team-mates at a nice price.
