EFL 6/1 Acca – Gab Sutton

Full EFL service resumes after the first international break of the season and EFL pundit Gab Sutton has picked out a team from each league for his acca this weekend.

Leicester to win

It seems foolhardy to bet against a Gary Rowett team, given the consistency and reliability of his sides at this level over 11 years: a 2-2 draw with Coventry just before the international break, for instance, continued his record of his sides never losing more than three Championship games in a row.

Nonetheless, the Yellows have come out of the blocks slowly this season, and there’s a palpable feeling that they finished the window three or four players short of the squad Rowett would have liked.

With that in mind, it’s hard to say whether they’re in the right position to produce a competitive performance against Leicester, who have shown they still have plenty of quality in their squad in the opening four games – despite an uncertain summer.

A Rowett team won’t roll over, but the 87/100 odds imply a 53.5% probability – in other words, if this game is played 100 times, Leicester would win 54 of them, yet realistically it’s probably more like 60 or 65.

Bolton to win

The fact Bolton have won just two of their first seven league games paints the picture of an underwhelming start; which it is, in terms of results, but Steven Schumacher’s side have also drawn four games, and in at least two of them they were clearly the better side.

And, having found the clinical edge that had eluded them in previous games against AFC Wimbledon last weekend, the Trotters will travel to Brisbane Road in confident mood.

Hosts Leyton Orient have had to adjust to losing a number of key players since reaching the Play-Off Final last season, and while their recruitment has looked good on paper in terms of replacements, it may take time for the new faces to integrate.

In that sense, Bolton may be catching them at a good time, and could prove a value play at odds-against quotes.

Tranmere to win

Tranmere haven’t quite amassed the points total, so far this season, that their performances have merited; Andy Crosby’s side have created chances in every game, so better finishing is what they’ll require to break into the top seven, although they’ve still scored 10 goals in their first six games.

You can see an identity behind this Rovers side, though, with attacking wing-backs and a box midfield, with the athleticism of Nohan Kenneh and the experience of Richie Smallwood proving a valuable pairing at the base when both are available.

With Joe Ironside coming in to offer a physical focal point up top, to facilitate the creativity of Charlie Whitaker and the incisive goal threat of Omari Patrick, Tranmere can create chances, while a back-three of Lee O’Connor, Nathan Smith and Patrick Brough have forged a real understanding.

Visitors Newport, on the other hand, have lost their last five league games, and are missing a touch of experience and knowhow in their side.
