EFL 5/1 Acca – Gab Sutton
Gab Sutton returns with his EFL Acca ahead of an exciting round of fixtures from the English Football Leagues!
Portsmouth to win
Portsmouth enjoyed one of the best home records in the Championship last season, winning 11 in 17 at Fratton Park from November onwards.
They’re yet to replicate that fortress Fratton factor this term, winning just once on familiar soil thus far, but the intensity of the atmosphere they create, and how difficult they can make it for opposing sides, can go under the radar.
Especially, that is, with the influence of aggressive Aussie Adrian Segecic, who performs a valuable pressing role in attacking midfield, making an impact from the bench against Watford in midweek.
Sure, it takes a bit of guts to take on the leaders in an acca, but Middlesbrough have been minutes from defeat in recent away games, clutching points at PNE and Southampton through late equalisers, and were somewhat fortuitous to get a point at home to Stoke last time out.
Bolton to win
Bolton will be keen to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-0 loss at Northampton, just a second defeat of the campaign for Steven Schumacher’s side.
The Trotters have dropped more points than they would have liked this season, but they’ve always created chances, and with a squad rich in depth, they always have the options to find solutions, both in and between games.
Amario Cozier-Duberry has caught Wanderers eyes so far this season, with some sparkling performances on the right on loan from Brighton, and many believe he’ll have a future well above this level.
Peterborough are in danger of having their own immediate future below it: back-to-back wins offered some hope for the Posh, but a 3-0 home loss to Lincoln puts Darren Ferguson’s men right back to the foot of the table.
Barnet to win
Had the season started in mid-August, Barnet would be 5th in League Two, only three points off the summit, but the three straight defeats to start the season has given Dean Brennan’s side some catching up to do.
The Bees are starting to get some key players in situ, though, like influential defender Nik Tavares, at the heart of the back-three, and physical front-man Lee Ndlovu; playing longer to him has actually helped their possession game, because opponents are more reluctant to press.
The North (of) London outfit thumped one of the best teams in the league, Grimsby, 3-0 last time out, and the National League title holders seem to be finding their groove.
Visitors Accrington Stanley, meanwhile, have an extremely youthful team due to budgetary limitations, with veteran stalwart Seamus Conneely – who’s probably not at the level he was a few years ago – being the only starting provider of experience.
