EFL 5/1 Acca – Gab Sutton
It has been an exciting first few weeks in the EFL, and Gab Sutton has been researching the early form guide for this weeks EFL Acca!
Wrexham to beat Sheffield Wednesday
Wrexham might have lost their first two league games, to Southampton and West Brom, but they’ve created plenty of chances in both matches and carried a real threat going forward, with mobile target man Kieffer Moore proving a valuable focal point.
Moore runs the channels superbly and creates a lot of space for Josh Windass and/or Nathan Broadhead, plus Lewis O’Brien, to cause problems.
The Red Dragons still need to make one or two defensive tweaks, namely bringing Arthur Okonkwo in for Danny Ward between the sticks, but they’ve shown more than enough to suggest they’ll be fine.
The same can’t be said for Sheffield Wednesday, who have begun with back-to-back defeats themselves – for the Owls, the on-field matters are secondary to off-field ones, as the club faces an uncertain future, unless Dejphon Chansiri sells this month.
Stockport to beat Burton
Stockport County suffered their first setback in midweek, losing 2-1 at home to Bradford, but it’s been a roundly positive start for Dave Challinor’s side.
The Hatters have led in every game so far, which makes it frustrating that they have seven points rather than the maximum 12, but also shows they’re getting something right, and the attacking option looks strong – Stoke loanee Nathan Lowe only made the bench last time out, for instance.
County should have the strength in depth, then, to see off Burton, who have begun with four points from three – a decent return, although they’ll have been frustrated not to take all three points against 10-man Port Vale last time out.
With Oli Norwood pulling the strings, and Kyle Wootton proving a handful, Stockport should make their class tell.
Tranmere to beat Crawley
Crawley have had a tough start to their return to League Two, after relegation from League One last season, with Scott Lindsey’s side beginning with three straight defeats, before steadying the ship with a 1-1 draw with MK Dons.
The Red Devils were better for the substitutes in last weekend’s 1-0 loss at Crewe with Kaheim Dixon, Danny Cashman and Louie Watson, coming into the XI, which gives them something to build on.
Nonetheless, it’s hard to see why the Sussex outfit would be priced at the same chance of victory as Tranmere, who have begun with five points from three games, with encouraging performances against Colchester and Gillingham sandwiching a 4-0 thumping of Shrewsbury.
Taylan Harris, Josh Davison and Charlie Whitaker have forged a dangerous front-three, while Richie Smallwood’s midfield pairing with Nohan Kenneh has arguably been among the best in League Two in the early weeks.
