EFL 30/1 Acca – Gab Sutton
EFL pundit Gab Sutton picks his best bets for the weekend’s EFL action – and this time, he’s gone down an audacious route!
Leyton Orient to win
Leyton Orient’s hopes of another top six finish have been dealt a blow, with back-to-back defeats for Richie Wellens’ side, to Mansfield and Northampton, but there are the means to mix things up.
Michael Craig, Charlie Wellens, Jack Moorhouse and Demetri Mitchell are all available to bring in to freshen things up, as the O’s navigate a rebuild, following the departures of numerous key players, and 15 new signings.
Victories over Wigan and Plymouth Argyle, though, show what the East Londoners are still capable of, as they look to get back on track with three points at Port Vale.
Darren Moore’s side haven’t had the start they hoped for, after promotion from League Two last season, amassing just two points from their opening six.
Exeter to win
It’s three wins and three defeats to start the season for Exeter, who have almost lurched from one extreme to the other but find themselves in the top half courtesy of high-scoring victories over Blackpool and Peterborough.
The Grecians have a strong midfield pairing, of Ethan Brierley and Jake Doyle-Hayes, and forwards in Josh Magennis and Jayden Wareham, at different ends of the age spectrum, who can do damage.
Rotherham, meanwhile, have endured a tough start to the season, with Matt Hamshaw’s men winless since the opening day triumph over Port Vale, having scored just twice in that period.
The Millers have invested in a lot of young players but they’re yet to gel, whereas Exeter seem to have a stronger formula in place.
Fleetwood to win
Fleetwood have enjoyed a positive start to their league campaign, winning three of their first six, thanks to a 1-0 victory at Barrow last time out.
Pete Wild’s side are a solid, well-organised outfit, capable of carving their opponents open to create four or five clear cut chances in a game, even if they don’t create a lot else.
Whereas, hosts Notts County are more defensively questionable, and might consider themselves fortunate to have won 2-1 at Tranmere last time out, riding their luck in the second half and sailing rather close to the wind.
Wild looks a better manager than Magpies boss Martin Paterson, and that class in the dugout could show at Meadow Lane.
