Liverpool have been busy in the summer transfer market, bringing in Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, while they are also still chasing the signature of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Palace have been more reserved in their activity, adding just two new faces to the squad, but the huge positive for the Eagles is the fact that they have held on to star players such as Eberechi Eze, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Marc Guehi.

Eagles boss Oliver Glasner masterminded the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City and the Austrian tactician's side also showed up well against Liverpool last season, narrowly losing 1-0 at home before drawing 1-1 at Anfield.

Palace ended last term on an eight-match unbeaten streak and they will feel confident of at least being level after 90 minutes, which would see the contest head to penalties.

As this is the first competitive fixture of the season, the performances from both teams can be a little disjointed as they get up to speed and this can make for low-scoring affairs.

Indeed, seven of the last eight Community Shield matches have produced under 2.5 goals, with five of those contests level and being decided on penalties.

Recent fixtures between Palace and Liverpool have also proven to be low on goals, with less than three strikes in five of the last six clashes.

If Palace are going to stand a chance of winning the Community Shield, then talisman Eberechi Eze will need to be on form, just as he was towards the end of last season.

The England international scored in six of his last seven matches in the 2024/25 campaign, notching seven times in total during that purple patch, while he registered eight assists in the league.

Eze has netted in his last two appearances, pre-season friendlies against Crawley Town and Augsburg, and he also grabbed an assist against the German side.

The 27-year-old will be crucial to the Eagles' attacking play and he provides good value to either score or assist at Wembley, given he netted the only goal at this stadium in the FA Cup final win over City.
