Who will win the World Cup?
That is the question on many football fans’ lips as the FIFA World Cup 2026 is finally upon us.
It’s been 1270 days since Argentina lifted their third World Cup, and they will be eager to become the first country to win back to back titles since Brazil in 1958 and 1962. It will be a real challenge to do so though, as there are a host of nations who will fancy their chances of winning football’s most esteemed prize.
Let’s have a look at the favourites to lift the trophy.
World Cup 2026. Outright
Spain are the 9/2 favourites with CopyBet after winning the Euros two years ago and possess excellent squad depth to complement talent like Lamine Yamal. France are second favourites at 5/1 and perhaps have the best pound-for-pound squad in world football. Then come England at 13/2, after back-to-back Euros final defeats in 2024 and 2020, alongside a 2018 World Cup semi-final run, it’s a question of whether Thomas Tuchel can finally get England over the line.
Portugal are next at 8/1, an excellent defence and midfield could make Ronaldo’s World Cup dream a reality. Both coming in at 9/1 are reigning champions Argentina and five-time winners Brazil. As usual, both squads are full of talent and experience and will be well adapted to the conditions they will play in over the summer.
Some longer shots are Germany at 14/1, who, despite being in something of a transitional period should never be written off while the Netherlands, who have an intriguing mix of experience and fairly new blood, are 20/1.
Finally, Belgium's 'Golden Generation’ may have mostly retired, but Kevin De Bruyne is still in place, and they are 33/1.
Also, let’s not forget that there is always a dark horse that nobody expects!
