The Premier League Returns

The Premier League makes its long-awaited return this weekend as the season rounds the final bend.

With the title race, relegation battle and fight for European spots all very much still alive there is plenty of top-level domestic football to watch and bet on this weekend.

Premier League

Watch out for bubbles in East London on Friday evening, as West Ham host Wolves in what is likely a must win game for the Hammer’s survival hopes. A win that would lift them out of the relegation zone and heap pressure on the trio of teams currently above them.

The dreaded early Saturday kick-off brings title favourites Arsenal, fresh from a morale boosting win in Lisbon in midweek, going up against Bournemouth at The Emirates. In what may be a tricky ninety minutes to navigate for the league leaders as Andoni Iraola continues to impress as Bournemouth boss.

The standout Saturday 3pm game (yes the Premier League still occasionally has those) looks to be Brentford hosting Everton as seventh and eighth in the table battle it out. With both teams hoping for at least a Conference League qualification place this season.

Later on, Liverpool, fresh from their FA cup exit at the hands of Manchester City, welcome Fulham to Anfield. With The Reds looking to put some daylight between themselves in fifth and Chelsea in sixth. Though Fulham have serious European aspirations of their own to target.

Moving into Sunday, the 2pm fixtures bring two crucial games in the battle to survive. As Tottenham, in Roberto De Zerbi’s first match as boss (good luck to him), travel to Sunderland while Nottingham Forest will have home advantage in their midlands clash versus Aston Villa.

Arguably the most eye-catching fixture of the weekend sees Chelsea, with only one win in their last six Premier League matches, taking on title-chasing Manchester City who still have an outside chance of winning their seventh Premier League title under Pep Guardiola.

Will the gap at the top be closed by Sunday evening before City and Arsenal’s massive showdown next weekend?
