The PGA Tour kicks off for 2026 on Thursday when the Waialae Country Club plays host to the Sony Open in Hawaii, where Nick Taylor will defend his title following a play-off win against Colombia’s Nico Echavarria.
World number one Scottie Scheffler is absent but former champions Russell Henley and Hideki Matsuyama will be among a strong field looking to make a great start to the new year.

The fairways at Waialae Country Club are tight and the greens are small so accurate iron play is a massive plus, which should help favourite Russell Henley make a strong bid at the venue where he claimed his first PGA Tour title in 2013.
The Georgian has since become one of the most consistent players on the tour, but those memories of that three-shot success can only bode well after an excellent 2025.
Henley claimed ten top-10 finishes last year including second place at the Tour Championship and victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the biggest success of his career.
He was 10th in Honolulu last year and lost in a play-off to Matsuyama in 2022, so he has plenty of good course form and is capable of making a winning start to the new year.

Harry Hall proved to be one of the emerging talents of the PGA Tour last year and showed great consistency in the second half of the year, finishing in the top 25 in 12 of 13 tournaments through May to September.
He is already a tour winner having claimed the 2024 Isco Championship when he won a five-man play-off and there is a good chance he can kick on again in 2026.
Hall’s short-game quality could be a big asset at Waialae and he should be confident of a good week after finishing 10th last year.

Nico Echavarria suffered Honolulu play-off heartache last year, but he can go one better this time.
The Colombian is one of the best putters in the field and was also 12th in this in 2023, so the course form is there.
A ninth spot in the Baycurrent Championship and fourth at the RSM Classic in the autumn mean his game should be in good order and he can hit the ground running at a venue he enjoys.
