It is the first signature event of the PGA Tour year this week when 80 players do battle to win one of the circuit’s most illustrious tournaments, the Pebble Beach Pro Am.

It will be the first time that defending champion Rory McIlroy will lock horns with world number one Scottie Scheffler this year, but there are plenty of others who will fancy their chances of gaining a big prize.

Russell Henley was fifth in last year’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am after firing a 64 in his opening round at Spyglass Hill, the course that shares hosting duties with the main track, and the Georgian’s accuracy should prove a valuable asset this week.

Henley knows what it feels like to win one of the PGA Tour’s signature events after his success at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March and he has shown great consistency in finishing in the top 20 in each of his last 10 tournaments.

He was also second at the Travelers Championship and August’s Tour Championship while his 19th spot at the Sony Open in Hawaii and eighth last time out at the American Express point to a strong performance this week.

Viktor Hovland was unable to build on an opening 65 at last year’s tournament as he finished an underwhelming 22nd, but he comes into this competition in decent nick.

The Norwegian showed some good form in the FedEx playoffs and a fifth place at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth was another encouraging performance for the Ryder Cup star.

He has started 2026 strongly with a 14th-place finish at the Dubai Desert Classic and 10th last week at Scottsdale, where his Saturday 65 was the joint best of the third day.

It is hard to ignore Si Woo Kim’s claims this week because he has been so consistent of late, albeit without claiming a title.

The South Korea’s worst finish in his last six events was the 11th he posted at the Sony Open in Hawaii and he has already been knocking firmly on the door.

His opening 73 in Phoenix was a disappointment but he stormed back with a Friday 62 and did enough to finish third, a week after he was one of the three players who got closest to runaway Farmers Insurance Open winner Justin Rose.

Kim has finished 14th and 12th at Pebble Beach the last two years and this could be the week he finally gets over the line.
