Johnny Burke's Thoughts Ahead of Tuesday’s race at Uttoxeter
Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting at Uttoxeter, CopyBet ambassador Johnny Burke has shared his thoughts on his three rides, as he looks forward to an exciting afternoon at one of jump racing’s fairest and most popular all-year-round venues.
Uttoxeter
I'm really looking forward to riding at Uttoxeter on Tuesday, and it is great to see CopyBet sponsoring races, and it's great to have some rides on the card.
Uttoxeter is a great course to ride and one of the few tracks that run all year round, and is a very fair track, with 2 long straights and the dog-leg around the back, especially in the summer when the weather is hot, and they do a great job with watering the course. You usually see the best horse win and always get a good crowd and atmosphere there with the racegoers, an enthusiastic and great bunch of people!
My first ride is Amalfina in the opening race at 1:30 pm (CopyBet Proudly Backs UK Horse Racing Novices' Hurdle), and I hope she can improve on her first run, but she is probably one for down the line, so anything she does here will be a bonus.
The next 2 rides are for trainer James Owen and both with strong chances, starting with Back In The Bay at 2:00 pm (CopyBet Daily World Cup Profit Boost Novices' Handicap Chase), who I schooled over fences last week, and she has her first run over fences on the card, and with her comeback run behind her, she should strip fitter this time and hopefully improves for the switch to chasing.
Ivane runs at 2:30 pm, and I rode a nice race on him in the Surrey National earlier last season and ran a decent race the last day at Stratford on what probably wouldn't have been his ideal track, so a more galloping track like Uttoxeter should be more suited to his style and looking at the form and opponents, we hope to have a good chance.
