What a charge Lincoln have made for the playoffs and now it comes down to this the final game of the regular season. Last weekend’s 2-1 win at Cheltenham was a 12th from their last 16 games and means the Imps have suffered just one defeat in their last 19 fixtures. That incredible run of form sees Michael Skubala’s side currently occupy the final play-off spot on goal difference from 7th placed Oxford with Blackpool one point behind the pair. A win here against the champions will guarantee Lincoln’s season is extended.

Portsmouth secured the title with a 3-2 win over Barnsley on the 16th of this month but were then beaten at home by Wigan last weekend. Pompey’s Callum Lang admitted it was “tough” getting back on the pitch after the midweek celebrations and ahead of their League One trophy presentation. I’m taking that hangover to continue here against a side who not only in incredible form but have a huge incentive to take all three points.

Newcastle vs Sheffield United

This selection is locked in ahead of the midweek round of fixtures which sees both sides in action. However, the outcome of their respective games matters little, and I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive home win here. Last time on home soil Newcastle recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over Tottenham with two goals from Alexander Isak keeping his hopes of winning the Golden Boot alive. Eddie Howe has seen his side win 11 of their 17 league games at St James Park and no side has scored more than their 43 home goals this term.

Visitors Sheffield United remain rooted to the foot of the table and it is a question of when not if their relegation is confirmed. They are fast closing in on becoming the first side to conceded 100 goals since the Premier League has been reduced to 20 teams and the Geordies could run amok here. Let us not forget the reverse fixture back in September when Newcastle humiliated the Blades 8-0 with a Premier League record eight different players scoring the goals.

Gillingham vs Doncaster Rovers

It is impossible for me to leave Doncaster out of the treble. The last day of the season is something of a minefield as we pick through and try to identify the sides that not only need a positive result but are capable of getting one. On Tuesday night Grant McCann’s side came from behind to seal a convincing 4-1 win at Colchester United. A 10th consecutive victory which sees them now fifth in the table with just this game left to play. Yes, in theory a draw would guarantee them a playoff spot but that is a risky strategy especially when on such a long winning streak that they would surely want to maintain into the post season.

Rovers won the reverse fixture 2-1 in September and will look to complete the double here to go into the playoffs in style. Gillingham are a tough nut to crack on home soil but are ending the season with something of a whimper having lost three of their last four games across all venues. Included in that a 5-1 thumping at mid-table Harrogate. All in all, I have to back the most in-form side in the entire country.
