The PGA Tour is winding down before kicking back into action in the new year, but there is a decent field of 20 heading to the Bahamas this week to take part in the Hero World Challenge.

All eyes will be on world number one Scottie Scheffler as he makes his first appearance since the Ryder Cup and he will be looking to win the tournament for the third successive year.

Scottie Scheffler has not been seen in action since a disappointing Ryder Cup at the end of September, but he heads to a venue he loves this week and he looks primed to end another memorable year on a high in the Bahamas.

The Texan boasts form figures of 2-2-1-1 at Albany Golf Club and there looks little reason to desert him now, particularly as he had an even longer break before this tournament last year and was still able to claim a six-shot win.

The layout, which rewards aggressive golf due to a lack of rough, plays straight into his hands and there is little danger of him being rusty.

Victory in his last individual outing, September’s Procore Championship, is another positive tick in the box and he is plainly the man to beat in this end-of-term gathering.

Robert MacIntyre has been a lot busier than Scheffler since he was on the winning side at Bethpage Black and the Scot should be pleased with his autumn displays.

He claimed a home victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links and built upon that with top-ten finishes at the Abu Dhabi and DP World Tour Championships, so he heads to the Bahamas in fine fettle.

MacIntyre has some course experience, having finished seventh here last year, and we can anticipate an improved display 12 months later.

Justin Rose is another star of the European team who should not be ignored this week.

The Englishman won the FedEx St Jude in August and heads west having posted a 14th-placed finish at the DP World Tour Championship last time out.

Rose has performed well at Albany, finishing in the top five in three of his last five visits, including a third spot in 2019, so he definitely isn’t just making up the numbers and can make a strong bid for glory.
