EFL 5/1 Acca – Gab Sutton
Wycombe to win
Wycombe have enjoyed a fantastic turnaround in form since Michael Duff took the Adams Park hot seat, with only Stockport and Bolton accruing a superior points return since his September appointment.
Some of the in-possession ideas in place previously were pretty good, but Duff has brought a wider range of qualities to the hot-seat in bringing everything together.
Whereas hosts Port Vale are struggling at the foot of League One, after winning promotion last season, and have only won once at home all season, taking five points from their seven league games at Vale Park.
There have been question marks of the harmony and leadership of the group, so the visitors look good value to take all three points.
Notts County
to win
Since starting the season with one point from their first three games, with key men absent, Notts County have steamed into promotion contention, as three straight wins have launched Martin Paterson’s men into the top three.
The Magpies are well organised and boast in-form forwards in Alassana Jatta and Matthew Dennis; ideally, they’d like to create a few more chances, but they do have some real building blocks in place for a top seven side.
Visitors Harrogate, on the other hand, look set for a season of struggle, plummeting down the table with five straight defeats.
Simon Weaver’s side have issues up top, while last season’s reliable players such as goalkeeper James Belshaw and centre-back Anthony O’Connor have been out of the team recently, which suggests a drop in performance.
Bromley to win
Bromley could be the new Wycombe: an underdog with non-league roots, that scores a lot of goals from set pieces, long throws and crosses into the box, and has an uncanny ability to make every team they play worse.
The Ravens have moved within a point of the top seven with successive wins, as marksman Michael Cheek takes his seasonal tally to eight goals, and threatens to be among the League Two golden boot frontrunners once again.
With that in mind, Andy Woodman’s side are rightly favourites for the visit of Barrow, who are seven unbeaten, somewhat unconvincingly so.
The Bluebirds have found themselves on the right side of fine margins of late, getting a point against Grimsby last time out through two opposition goalkeeping errors, while they’d been penned in for the whole game – they might not be as good as recent results suggest, and Wyll Stanway’s goalkeeping brilliance can only bail them out so many times.
