EFL 4/1 Acca - Gab Sutton

A full and exciting weekend awaits in the EFL, and EFL pundit Gab Sutton has picked his treble for the weekend’s action!

Coventry to win

Coventry are threatening to run away at the top of the Championship, having won 12 of their first 17 league games, including a late 4-2 victory at Middlesbrough in midweek, with Frank Lampard’s side averaging almost three goals a game!

The one question mark over the Sky Blues going into the campaign, had been whether they’d have the depth to deal with key absentees, but they’ve so often found the answers: for example, with Josh Eccles coming in for Jack Rudoni in the attacking midfield role and performing so well.

Having won 10 of their last 11 league games, the Midlanders are on fire, with the likes of Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Brandon Thomas-Asante having been in sumptuous form of late.

Visitors Charlton, on the other hand, have lost their last three league games, with heavy defeats to Southampton and Stoke representing a possible blow to the confidence of Nathan Jones’ side.

Stevenage to win

Stevenage ended a four-game winless run in midweek with a 1-0 victory at Peterborough, as Jamie Reid’s penalty took his personal tally to six league goals for the season – and that’s having only started 11, with two substitute appearances.

With the Northern Ireland international rekindling his 2023-24 form, in which he was one of the top goalscorers in League One, following a 2024-25 disrupted by a pre-season injury, the Boro could be hard to stop.

Defensively, they remain uncompromising, with only Luton keeping more clean sheets than the six for Alex Revell’s side, who boast one of the toughest centre halves in the league in Carl Piergianni.

Hosts Wigan climbed to 15th with a 2-1 victory at Wimbledon, inspired by teenage debutant Harrison Bettoni’s substitute appearance – but Stevenage remain significantly underrated on the away win.

Barnet to win

Since starting the season with three consecutive defeats, Barnet have become one of League Two’s most dependable sides, with just two defeats in 14 – helped by a switch to a four-man defence that’s offered more security to Dean Brennan’s men.

The Bees have pace and guile out wide in Ryan Glover and Idris Kanu, a goalscoring #10 in Callum Stead, and a selfless target man in Lee Ndlovu – while Nnamdi Oforborh is a powerful destructive influence in midfield.

Meanwhile, they have one of the best centre-backs in League Two in Nik Tavares, who has made a big difference since returning from injury.

Visitors Harrogate, on the other hand, look troubled at the bottom having taken a paltry one point from their last seven games, as Simon Weaver’s side remain reliant on goalkeeper James Belshaw – the experienced stopper will need to have a man-of-the-match performance in North London for Town to get anything.
