Best Odds Guaranteed Haydock’s Grand National Trial Day horse racing tips – Copybet
Seven races are scheduled on a quality Grand National Trial Day card at Haydock on Saturday, including a pair of Grade 2 hurdles and the feature staying handicap chase.
The biggest field of the day comes in the 16-runner Pertemps Qualifier, a race which offers plenty of value from a betting perspective.
Kabral Du Mathan – Haydock
Dan Skelton has a number of strong chances on the card, none more so than Kabral Du Mathan, who can enhance his Stayers’ Hurdle credentials with victory in the Grade 2 Rendlesham Hurdle.
The six-year-old showed progressive form for Paul Nicholls last season, winning his first two starts in Britain prior to finishing runner-up in three hot handicaps at Ascot, Windsor and Ayr.
He was moved to Skelton’s yard for the start of the current campaign and he’s continued his upward trajectory, winning easily off a mark of 140 over 2m4f at Ascot on his stable debut in November before taking the step up to Grade 2 company in his stride with a fluent success in the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.
He tackles 3m for the first time, but he shapes like a strong stayer and has plenty in his favour on these terms.
The Mighty Celt – Haydock
French recruit The Mighty Celt is a fascinating runner for Skelton in the opening Victor Ludoram Juvenile Hurdle.
The four-year-old takes on some talented rivals, but he showed some smart form for Noel George and Amanda Zetterholm last year, finishing placed in Listed company and not disgraced in a Grade 1.
He interestingly beat Precious Man (now trained by Paul Nicholls) readily in a bumper on his debut, and that gelding has done well in juvenile hurdle races in Britain this season - finishing runner-up in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham and winning at Kempton.
He’s had wind surgery since arriving from France and has the potential for notable improvement with a first-time hood and tongue-tie fitted.
Off The Jury – Haydock
The Mickey Bowen-trained Off The Jury has repeatedly hit the crossbar over hurdles over the last couple of seasons and looks sure to give a good account in an ultra competitive Pertemps Qualifier.
The seven-year-old is currently 0-11 under rules, but he’s proved himself hugely consistent, both in bumpers and over hurdles, finding one too good on no fewer than six occasions, including in two of his three starts for this yard.
Beaten a neck off a 2lb lower mark in the Grade 3 EBF Final at Sandown last March for Alan King, he’s continued to run to a similar level in defeat this term and has undergone wind surgery (the second of his life) since his last run, so clearly warrants respect on this first try at 3m.
