A Pivotal Weekend In The Premier League Title Race
The title race took another turn on Monday night as Manchester City dropped points away to Everton, as Mikel Arteta’s former side did him a huge favour. So much so that Arsenal are now odds on favourites to win their first title in 22 years.
Let’s look ahead to how the title race is shaping up this weekend.
Manchester City vs Brentford
City host a Brentford side who still have hopes of at least an Europa League place for next season and have been superb under boss Keith Andrews this term. Interestingly, this match has the current number one and two in the Golden Boot race in Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago. Not something you would have thought back in August (when it comes to Thiago anyway).
So this will not be an easy assignment for City who will also be mindful of the fact, that as well as the title race no longer being in their hands, that they are now four goals behind Arsenal on goal difference. Which essentially means that at present they are 6 points behind rather than 5. Though of course they have a game in hand, which will be Crystal Palace at The Etihad on Wednesday evening (FPL DOUBLE GAMEWEEK ALERT).
Anyone else triple-captaining Haaland?
West Ham vs Arsenal
Arsenal make the short trip to the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon in what many see as possibly the last significant hurdle to clear in their quest to become champions. Though West Ham, who slipped back into the relegation zone last weekend, will see this and their two other remaining fixtures as cup finals in order to retain Premier League status.
Though Arsenal have scored 11 goals in their last two league visits to the London Stadium, and looked more fluent in attack in last week’s 3-0 home win over Fulham. Of course, the Gunners will still also be riding the wave of recently making their first Champions League final in 20 years. However, West Ham will perhaps be hoping that over a week's rest before this game could level the playing field somewhat.
